Join Prof. André Uitterlinden: The Genome of Europe & the Future of Genomic
The 1+ Million Genomes (1+MG) Initiative, launched under the Digital Europe Program (DEP), is transforming access to genomic data across Europe. With 27 EU countries as signatories, its goal is clear: make over 1 million whole genome sequences (WGS) available to advance research, healthcare, and disease prevention.
Join Prof. André Uitterlinden (Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam) as he discusses the Genome of Europe (GoE) project, a cornerstone of this vision. Backed by €45 million in funding, GoE brings together 30+ countries, 51 institutes, and 200 scientists to sequence the first 100,000 genomes, creating a proportional and representative European reference database.
The data will adhere to strict ethical (ELSI) and ICT standards, and will be accessible via the Genomics Data Infrastructure (GDI). Key use cases include:- Variant look-ups and genetic diversity analyses
- Multi-ancestry imputation services
- Recalibration of genetic risk profiles
- Longer-term clinical applications
Prof. Uitterlinden, Professor of Complex Genetics at Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, will share the latest progress of GoE and highlight how large-scale sequencing is reshaping research and healthcare. He will also explore the potential of genetic data in prevention and medicine — including polygenic risk scores (PRS), pharmacogenetics (PGx), and mutation screening.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear directly from one of Europe’s leading experts in genetics and gain insights into how Europe is leading the way in large-scale genomics!
