The gut microbiome has emerged as an important area of colorectal cancer research, with growing evidence that microbial communities may influence disease development, progression and treatment response.
In this guest webinar, Professor Gianni Panagiotou from Friedrich Schiller University Jena presents his research investigating the relationship between the gut microbiome and colorectal cancer. The session demonstrates how shotgun metagenomic sequencing, ITS sequencing, exometabolomics and single-cell RNA sequencing were integrated to characterise microbial composition, metabolic activity and host immune responses.
Drawing on findings from this study, Professor Panagiotou also discusses study design, sample collection and multiomics data integration, illustrating how complementary technologies can provide a more comprehensive understanding of host–microbiome interactions in cancer research.
